The Real Cost of a Travel Advisor Is Zero. Here Is What You Get in Return.

"You are not choosing between paying more and paying less. You are choosing between doing it alone and having an expert in your corner."
One of the most common things I hear from people who have never worked with a travel advisor is some version of this: "I did not think I could afford a travel agent."
And every time I hear it, I want to gently set the record straight, because that belief is one of the most expensive misconceptions in travel.
Working with a travel advisor does not cost you a single penny more than booking on your own. In fact, in most cases, it costs you less, when you factor in the perks, the protection, and the peace of mind that come standard when you have a professional in your corner.
HOW THE COMMISSION MODEL ACTUALLY WORKS
Here is the part that surprises most people: travel advisors are paid by the supplier, not by you.
When a cruise line, hotel, tour operator, or rail company sets their pricing, they build a commission percentage into the cost of the product. That commission is there whether you book direct with the supplier, book online through a third-party website, or book through a travel advisor.
The price you pay is the same.
The only difference is what happens to that commission. When you book direct, the supplier keeps it. When you book through an advisor, the supplier pays it to the advisor. Either way, the number on your invoice does not change.
So you are not paying extra for expert guidance. You are simply redirecting a portion of the price that was already allocated for this purpose.
WHAT YOU ACTUALLY GET WHEN YOU WORK WITH AN ADVISOR
This is where the real comparison begins. Because booking direct gives you a confirmation number. Working with an advisor gives you something far more valuable.
Expertise You Cannot Google
A seasoned travel advisor has spent years, sometimes decades, learning the products they recommend. I hold certifications from more than a dozen cruise lines, including the Princess Commodore designation, which is the highest recognition Princess Cruises offers. I am a CLIA Accredited Cruise Counselor, a Certified Travel Industry Executive, and an ASTA Verified Travel Advisor.
That means when I recommend a specific ship, a particular cabin category, or an itinerary over another, I am drawing on training, first-hand knowledge, and real-world experience, not just the top result from a search engine.
Personalized Planning From Start to Finish
No online booking engine asks about your mobility needs, your preference for smaller ships, your history of motion sickness, or the fact that you absolutely must have a balcony cabin because sunsets over the water are your favorite thing in the world.
Your travel advisor does.
We build every itinerary around the real you, the traveler with preferences, priorities, and a vision for what an incredible vacation actually looks like.
Advocacy When Things Go Wrong
Travel does not always go as planned. Flights get cancelled. Weather disrupts itineraries. Cabins need to be changed. Medical situations arise. And in those moments, the difference between having a travel advisor and not having one is the difference between spending four hours on hold with a call center and having one person who already knows you, knows your booking, and knows exactly who to call.
I am in this business because I genuinely care about my clients. When something goes sideways on a trip, you need an advocate, not an automated system. That is what we provide.
Access to Exclusive Amenities and Group Perks
Many travel advisors have access to amenity programs, group space, and preferred supplier relationships that are simply not available to the general public. That can mean onboard credits, priority embarkation, pre-paid gratuities, shore excursion credits, or wine and dining packages, added to your booking at no additional cost.
When you book direct, you get the booking. When you book through an advisor, you often get the booking plus extras that make the whole experience richer.
Peace of Mind Before, During, and After
Your advisor handles the details so you do not have to. From confirming your cabin assignment to reviewing your final documents, from checking in before departure to being reachable during your trip, we are with you every step of the way.
Travel is supposed to feel like freedom. That is exactly what you get when someone else is managing the logistics.
THE REAL QUESTION TO ASK YOURSELF

When you are planning a trip, the question is not "Can I afford a travel advisor?" The real question is: "Can I afford not to have one?"
The internet is full of options. That is part of the problem. Sorting through hundreds of cabin categories, comparing itineraries across six cruise lines, reading the fine print on cancellation policies, and figuring out whether travel protection is actually worth it, all of that takes time, energy, and expertise you may not have.
We do this every single day. It is what we love. And it is what we are here for.
